About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover: The {beta}-galactosidase reporter gene expression (blue) driven by nephrin promoter in newborn nephrin null allele cerebellum. The nephrin protein co-distributes in immunohistochemistry with vimentin in fibers of radial glial cells. In addition to brain, nephrin is expressed specifically in kidney glomerular podocytes. The nephrin-deficient mice exhibit severe proteinuria and die within 24 h after birth, demonstrating the crucial function of the protein in the glomerular filtration barrier.
