Cover: The
cover figure shows a 3-D reconstruction of electron micrographs of chondrocytes
in the tibial growth plate of a mouse harbouring a missense mutation in
matrilin-3. This specific mutation has been shown to cause the human disease
known as multiple epiphyseal dysplasia. The chondrocytes are abnormal in shape
and are unable to align correctly into organized columns; furthermore there are
enlarged cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulum. See Leighton et al., pp. 1728-1741, this issue, for further information.
