Cover: Coronal section of one hemisphere of a 1 year-old shiverer (shi/shi) mouse, that was rescued by neonatal transplantation with purified human fetal glial progenitor cells. Shiverer mice do not express myelin basic protein (MBP), and typically die by 20-21 weeks of age. This section was immunostained for MBP (green), revealing extensive graft-derived myelination, to an extent indistinguishable from wild-type mice. Mice rescued by such neonatal progenitor grafts exhibited substantial neurological recovery as well as sustained survival. Image by Martha Windrem. See article by Goldman and colleagues, pp. R76-R83.
