Cover: The cover image shows myogenic upregulation of Akt1 signaling, which leads to muscle fiber hypertrophy, restores sarcolemmal stability in dystrophin-deficient mdx mice. Evan�s Blue Dye was used in a tracer assay to locate myofibers that have undergone contraction-induced membrane damage, which is characteristic of dystrophin-deficiency. Akt over-expression in mdx muscle ameliorates membrane damage as evidenced by dramatic reductions in Evan's Blue Dye infiltration. Transverse quadriceps muscle sections were analyzed for Evan's Blue Dye infiltration (red) and individual muscle fibers were delineated with laminin staining (green). See A. K.
