Cover: The cover image shows abnormal accumulation of calcium in Stra13-/- muscle. Cross-sections of quadriceps muscles from Stra13-/- mice were stained with Alizarin Red ten days after freeze injury. The mutant muscle exhibits positive staining with Alizarin Red indicating the presence of calcium deposits. Calcification of necrotic fibers is characteristically seen in muscular dystrophy, and indicate that the compromised regenerative response of Stra13-/- mice has pathological hallmarks of dystrophy.
